Wanting to learn a new language is an amazing thing to strive towards. Unfortunately knowing where to start is always the thing that tends to prevent any progress from acturly being made.
Which is exactly why when I first wanted to learn Korean I stopped after learning Hangul and only ever watched K-dramas thinking that I would eventually learn enough. Unsurprisingly the only thing I really learnt from K-dramas was simple phrases like chincha and eyogo.
So here are 3 must have tools for self studying.
My all time favourite is this site which I always come back to because they have the perfect amount of explaining and gramma. As well as putting it into levels so that you can easily go back or forward depending on how you feel you are progressing with the information.
I recommend this site for learning if you love a more textbook approach. I also love this because it is free. You will still need to practice speech and listening skills but I still recommend learning the units on this site. As I found it also helps with retaining information to go back over the examples they provide. Try reading out loud if you can and check your pronunciation with Papago or Chatgpt.
Alright number two on my list is this one which I discovered recently and use it almost daily now.
2. LingoPie

When I stumbled upon Lingopie I immediatly subscribed. I love the variety of shows and the english and Korean subtitles. They have varying levels as well. I’ve mostly listened to the Korean kid folk law once’s as well as the Animal Science and Korean History episodes. I highly recommend this for improving your listening skills as well as increasing your vocabulary.
Onto my third must for self studying Korean.
3. Korean101

I love Korean101 for increasing your skills after learning the basics. I found this to be another great way of improving pronunciation and increasing the amount of Korean retained from textbook learning. If you are looking for an all in one Korean learning site I would recommend this combined with then talking to Chatgpt for increased retainment. They also have Level quiz’s so you can see where you are at with your progress.
This concludes my list of must have learning programs/sites for actual progress with your at home Korean studies. Now I know classes’ aren’t always an options but after using these tools and gaining some confidence I would recommend doing even just a few class’s with someone on Preply which I will be making a post on. As you will gain greater confidence in your speaking skills by talking to someone in Korean as Chatgpt isn’t a permanent practice partner for conversation. Nor will Chatgpt or other conversation apps replace a real person that will have natural reactions and take initiative in asking so that you may respond naturally.
This concludes my post and I hope you find this helpful and wish you the best of luck with your studies!!🫡📖
