Korean Batchim (받침) Pronunciation Grid

Batchim means the final consonant at the bottom of a syllable block. When a consonant is in this position, its sound is often simplified.

4. Important Pronunciation Tip

Batchim sounds are unreleased.

This means your mouth stops the sound without releasing air.

Example:

  • 밥 → bap̚ (not bap-uh)
  • 국 → guk̚ (not guk-uh)
  • 옷 → ot̚ (not ot-uh)
